Converting a HyperCard stack
to MetaCard or Revolution

A Tutorial

This tutorial will show you how to convert a simple HyperCard stack to MetaCard or to Revolution, cross-platform software development tools that offer HyperCard users an easy way to port their stacks to other operating systems. Because these tools use a superset of the HyperTalk scripting language and support the HyperCard behaviors and features that stack authors are accustomed to, HyperCard users can leverage their existing skills to quickly create cross-platform versions of their stacks.

There are some differences, however. The goal of this tutorial is to help you understand some of those differences and show you how to work with them.

This tutorial will take you about two hours to complete, depending on your familiarity with MetaCard or Revolution. Two versions of the tutorial are provided. Both versions are identical except for instructions on how to perform the various actions the tutorial describes. Since MetaCard and Revolution use different user interfaces to achieve the same results, choose the version of the tutorial that corresponds to the software you are using.

Start at the Table of Contents and work your way through the sections in order. If you prefer, you may download either tutorial as a StuffIt file and work offline.
